How to Prep Your Hair for Maximum Absorption (Hint: Stop Doing This First)

Hair masks and conditioners are not the same but they do follow a similar application process. I have found that sometimes when trying out new conditioners or hair masks, they don't seem to work super well. This is the number one thing that has helped my hair absorb my conditioners and hair masks better. Its very simple... just ring out your hair before applying a conditioner!

To some it might seem obvious, to others it might seem revolutionary. Why waste your money on expensive hair products if they are just going to slide off? Might as well put in one extra step to ensure that you get the best possible results from your hair products. Here is the steps I would follow.

  1. Wash your hair like normal - double shampoo if possible to ensure there is no scalp buildup to encourage new hair growth. You can also give yourself a good scalp massage at this point.
  2. Gently squeeze or ring out your hair - the most important step
  3. Apply conditioner or hair mask from ends to mids working in sections if needed. Make sure all the strands are coated
  4. Tie up hair for 3-10 minutes and do everything else you need to get done in the shower (shaving, soap, ect).
  5. Rinse off mask or conditioner with cool water

Thats it! Very simple but try it next time you wash your hair if you are not already doing go and see the difference just a simple fix can make. We often think that because we are in the shower our hair needs to be sopping wet but your hair can act as a sponge once submerged in water. A sponge that is totally soaked will have a really hard time absorbing anything else!
