Clean beauty vs natural products. What is the difference? How to choose what is best for you?
When navigating the complex world of beauty, one common question arises: Is this product natural, or is it clean? Many people mistakenly believe that natural and clean beauty are the same thing—but they're actually quite different.
Understanding the difference between natural beauty and clean beauty is essential when choosing products that align with your values and skincare goals. Let's break down what each term means and how to decide which is best for you.
Clean Beauty
Clean beauty means that the beauty product is free from harmful or toxic chemicals. The ingredients inside the product can be both natural ingredients from the earth and chemicals that are synthesized in the lab. Either way, all of the products have been determined to be safe for human use.
You may have heard of something called "Sephora Clean". Sephora clean is Sephoras way of certifying that the product is safe and free of potentially harmful ingredients. When a product claims to be Sephora Clean even when it isn't actually sold in Sephora, this means that it does not include any of the ingredients that Sephora deems harmful.
Natural Beauty
Natural beauty means that all of the ingredients have been sourced from the earth and do not contain any man made ingredients that have been made in a lab. A common misconception is that natural beauty means that the ingredient being used is safe. This is not always true. It also does not mean that the ingredient actually has any benefits at the concentration it is given in.
What is best for you?
Choosing the option that works best for you really depends on what you personally value. Do you care about only putting all natural things on your skin? Then only purchase natural beauty. Do you care more about safety in products rather than all natural? Then go for the clean beauty option.
